Introducing Golden Heart - Our Chair Yoga Programme

With our Chair Yoga class running from January on a weekly basis, we were able to address a need in our community, and through conversations and demand we had enough data to put together an application for an exciting project.

Through the National Lottery Community Fund we have created Golden Heart, a project to offer chair yoga classes, support and resources to Dundee communities and beyond.

We held a launch event a DC Thomson in the city centre thanks to The Courier, you can read the highlights of the class here and a case study for the work we do with Finding Your Feet here.

From September 1st our timetable has the following new classes, free of charge:

  • Monday 4.30-5.15pm

  • Wednesday 10.30-11.15am

  • Saturday 9.00-9.45am

To book a class, please use our website as we have limited space available due to a set number of chairs. If a class is full, please join our waitlist as we will call you when we have a cancellation. As the classes are free of charge, if you cannott attend, please contact us by phone or by email: info@heartspacedundee.co.uk

Chair-based yoga offers a multitude of benefits for both the body and mind, making it an accessible and inclusive practice for individuals of all ages and physical abilities. From a physical standpoint, it enhances flexibility, strength, and balance as participants engage in gentle stretches and poses while seated or using the chair for support. This can be particularly beneficial for those with any mobility issues or limited range of motion.

Additionally, chair yoga promotes better posture, which can alleviate chronic discomfort caused by inactivity. Beyond the physical advantages, this form of yoga also nurtures mental well-being. The controlled breathing exercises incorporated in chair yoga foster relaxation, reduce stress, and improve concentration, fostering a sense of calm and mental clarity. Overall, chair-based yoga empowers individuals to take charge of their holistic health, offering a holistic approach to wellness that nurtures both the body and mind.

Attendees of this project will also have access to a referral system to our in-house physiotherapist to help assess and manage any conditions that could be alleviated by a chair yoga practice. Please contact us for more information about the referral progrramme. (Please note, it is only available to chair yoga class participants).
